School of Business at Olivet Nazarene University launches American Advertising Federation student chapter

Bourbonnais, IL (09/11/2017) — Olivet Nazarene University's School of Business announces the beginning of its own chapter of the American Advertising Federation (AAF). The AAF has more than 200 chapters and more than 5,000 student members across the United States.

This AAF opportunity allows Olivet students to experience real world marketing and advertising projects. Erin Meyers - a senior from Northville, Michigan, who is majoring in commercial graphics and public relations - is president of the Olivet chapter. Chris Perez, a professor in the School of Business, is the faculty sponsor.

In addition, a team of skilled and passionate students from the Olivet chapter are forming a team to compete in the 2018 National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC).

"The new AAF Chapter and NSAC are platforms for student success," Perez says. "We are creating opportunities where the spotlight shines brightly on each student's unique gifts. Olivet is the place where they develop not just a career, but also a calling to find needs and fill them for the glory of God. Our graduates enter the business world, both as employers and employees, well-prepared for a life of service."

NSAC is an annual competition event hosted by AAF, which represents every aspect of the advertising industry and is based in Washington D.C. For the competition, a corporate sponsor offers a case study with details, including product history and existing advertising situation. Student competition teams - each representing a university or college - research the company, identify potential problems, create an advertising campaign and present it to a panel of judges.

Ocean Spray Cranberries will be the client for the 2018 NSAC competition to be held in Chicago, June 7 to 9, 2018, as recently announced by AAF. The competition will require each AAF college chapter team to develop a written, integrated marketing campaign proposal and a 20-minute presentation in response to a real-world advertising challenge facing Ocean Spray. Professionals in the advertising, communications and marketing fields will judge the event and will be selected by the client.

AAF is divided into fifteen geographical districts, which include professional members and college chapters. Olivet is one of 30 AAF college chapters that will compete in District 6, a mega district and one of the largest in the country.
