Alumna Michelle Schneider of Minier, Illinois, inducted into Olivet's Hall of Fame

2014 Nov 5

Olivet Nazarene University's Department of Athletics inducted alumna Michelle (McFadden) Schneider of Minier, Illinois, into the Athletics Hall of Fame during the 2014 Homecoming and Family Weekend festivities, Friday, October 31, 2014. She was honored for her achievements as a Tiger volleyball player.

Schneider was an important part of Tiger volleyball from 2004 to 2008. She came to Olivet as a middle blocker, but was moved to outside hitter due to a teammate's injury. She definitely made the best of it by becoming a NAIA All-American. She reached that honor two more times, in two different positions. She was the CCAC Freshman of the Year in 2004, CCAC Player of the Year in 2007 and received the Larry Watson Ambassador Award as a senior. She helped lead the Tigers to three CCAC regular season titles and four tournament championships.

She is married to Seth Schneider, and the couple is expecting their first child. A watercolor illustrator specializing in custom portraits, she owns her own business, The Art of Michelle. She was recently named "Best New Artist" at an art show in Lincoln, Illinois. The couple resides in Minier, Illinois.

This year's honorees also include: Lauren (Chessum) McLain, softball; Hilary (Disch) Lochner, women's basketball; Ben Zobrist, baseball; and Coach Ralph Hodge, men's basketball. An additional honor for Zobrist is the retiring of his Tiger number 12 and baseball jersey.

"Recognizing these outstanding representatives of Tiger athletics is one of the highlights of every year at Olivet," said Gary Newsome, director of athletics. "Lauren, Hilary, Michelle, Ben and Coach Hodge continue to uphold our standards of excellence in their careers and post-college activities."
