Alumnus Scott Karalis recognized with Olivet's 2014 Young Alumni Award

2014 Nov 6

Olivet Nazarene University presented its fourth annual Young Alumni Awards to alumnus Scott Karalis of Palatine, Illinois, and alumna Katherine Kalemkarian of Los Angeles during the morning chapel service on Friday, October 31, as part of the 2014 Homecoming and Family Weekend activities.

Beginning his academic career at Olivet, Scott Karalis graduated magna cum laude in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in corporate communication and received the communication department's Honor Award. In 2007, he studied jurisprudence and Aristotle as a visiting scholar at the University of Oxford in England.

Focusing on his career goal of practicing law, Karalis graduated with distinction in 2011 from the University of Iowa College of Law, one of the top 30 law schools in the nation. He was executive editor of The Journal of Corporation Law, which is ranked third in the nation for corporate law journals.

Today, Karalis is an associate at the Chicago firm of BatesCarey LLP, one of the largest firms in the country focused exclusively on representing and protecting the interests of insurers and reinsurers. His practice focuses on directors and officers and corporate liability coverage for mid-sized and Fortune 500 companies. He has served as counsel for complex insurance claims, such as securities fraud class action lawsuits, regulatory investigation and proceedings, and employment-related litigation.

He and his wife, Brittany (Dahl), a 2008 Olivet graduate, reside in Palatine, Illinois. She teaches Spanish at Wauconda High School.

Each year, as part of the Homecoming celebration, Olivet honors one outstanding alumna and one outstanding alumnus with this award. Recipients are chosen by vote of the Alumni Board, and must have graduated from Olivet within the last 10 years. These awards are underwritten by alumni Mel and Judith (Tucker) Sayes, 1973 Olivet graduates, of Little Rock, Arkansas.
