Andrew Fischer of Graaff-Reinet, South Africa, , honored in Who's Who Among Students for 2016

Andrew Fischer of Graaff-Reinet, South Africa, (00000) has received national recognition as an outstanding campus leader for 2016 by the Who's Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges program. He is the son of Carl and Sandra Fischer.

Fischer is one of a select group of 44 Olivet Nazarene University seniors who have been recognized for 2016. He is also part of a select group from more than 1,000 schools in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Majoring in English, Fischer received this honor for his achievements while at Olivet, including: NAIA Swimming National Champion (three times); NAIA All-American (eight times); 2015 and 2016 Daktronics-NAIA Student-Athlete; captain, Olivet Tigers swim team; Water 4 Water, swim across Lake Michigan to raise $20,000 for Team World Vision (2014); ran Chicago Marathon with Team World Vision to raise money for clean water; presented paper at Sigma Tau Delta (international English honor society) International Convention in Albuquerque (2015); Dean's List (2013-2016); University Honors Program; member, Sigma Tau Delta; co-leader, Prayer Warriors (2014-2016); served on seven-week mission trip to China and South Korea, teaching English with Footsteps Missions (2015).

Olivet's campus nominating committee - made up of representatives from the faculty, administration and student body - selected and nominated students to be considered for this prestigious recognition. Selection criteria included grade point average, participation and leadership in school activities, community involvement, and leadership ability.

"These selected individuals exemplify the highest Christian ideals, strong academic achievement and a commitment to service," said Woody Webb, vice president for student development. "In and out of the classroom, they embody hope for the future - for themselves and everyone they will encounter in their lives."

For 80 years, Who's Who Among Students has annually honored outstanding student leaders from institutions of higher learning across the country. It is one of the most highly regarded and long-standing honors programs, respected by college faculties and administrations.
