Garrett Muhlstadt of Kankakee, Illinois (60901) has received national recognition as an outstanding campus leader for 2016 by the Who's Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges program. He is the son of Jim and Angie Muhlstadt.

Muhlstadt is one of a select group of 44 Olivet Nazarene University seniors who have been recognized for 2016. He is also part of a select group from more than 1,000 schools in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Majoring in engineering with a mechanical engineering concentration (also pre-med concentration), Muhlstadt received this honor for his achievements while at Olivet, including: Dean's List (all semesters); University Honors Program; Sunday school teacher for first through fourth grade boys (four years); small group leader for fifth and sixth grade boys (three years); resident assistant (two years); volunteered in emergency room, Riverside Medical Center (eight months); served on mission trips to Shepherd Community Center in Indianapolis, Kudjip Nazarene Hospital in Papua New Guinea and for hurricane relief in New Jersey; Heart 4 Missions Club; shadowed a surgeon and a pediatrician in the Silhouette Program, Riverside Medical Center (10 weeks).

Olivet's campus nominating committee - made up of representatives from the faculty, administration and student body - selected and nominated students to be considered for this prestigious recognition. Selection criteria included grade point average, participation and leadership in school activities, community involvement, and leadership ability.

"These selected individuals exemplify the highest Christian ideals, strong academic achievement and a commitment to service," said Woody Webb, vice president for student development. "In and out of the classroom, they embody hope for the future - for themselves and everyone they will encounter in their lives."

For 80 years, Who's Who Among Students has annually honored outstanding student leaders from institutions of higher learning across the country. It is one of the most highly regarded and long-standing honors programs, respected by college faculties and administrations.
