2017 Mar 28

Jennifer Cox of Caldwell, Idaho, is the first place winner in Olivet Nazarene University's 2017 Reed Leadership Essay Contest. Her winning essay titled "A New Weapon" is now available on Olivet's Digital Commons academic repository site at digitalcommons.olivet.edu. Cox is a sophomore majoring in psychology at Olivet.

In this special essay competition for sophomores only, 37 Olivet students accepted the challenge to write on this topic: "What are the challenges and complexities of embracing the call to leadership in a world that is demanding something new of you as a Christian leader, especially in a globally diverse, multi-cultural world?" The resulting essays became their entries in the annual Reed Leadership Essay Contest, sponsored by The David L. Elwood Center for Student Success.

This annual essay competition occurs in conjunction with the Reed Institute for the Advancement of Leadership's Lifetime Achievement Award. This year's award recipient is Dr. Brenda Salter McNeil, recognized for her tireless work in the area of racial reconciliation over the past 30 years. Each essay contest participant received a copy of her book, Roadmap to Reconciliation.
