Jessica Dirkse of Downers Grove, Illinois, honored in Who's Who Among Students for 2016

Jessica Dirkse of Downers Grove, Illinois (60515) has received national recognition as an outstanding campus leader for 2016 by the Who's Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges program. She is the daughter of David and Malinda Dirkse.

Dirkse is one of a select group of 44 Olivet Nazarene University seniors who have been recognized for 2016. She is also part of a select group from more than 1,000 schools in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Majoring in mathematics education, Dirkse received this honor for her achievements while at Olivet, including: Kappa Delta Pi, international honor society in education; Pi Mu Epsilon, national mathematics honor society; 2015 Homecoming Queen; Dean's List (seven semesters); member of 12 intramural championship teams; Best Buddies (two years); resident assistant (two years); volunteer, Upward basketball program, Manteno, Illinois, coaching children in kindergarten through second grade (two seasons); Student Education Association (two years); student worker, Office of Admissions (six semesters).

Olivet's campus nominating committee - made up of representatives from the faculty, administration and student body - selected and nominated students to be considered for this prestigious recognition. Selection criteria included grade point average, participation and leadership in school activities, community involvement, and leadership ability.

"These selected individuals exemplify the highest Christian ideals, strong academic achievement and a commitment to service," said Woody Webb, vice president for student development. "In and out of the classroom, they embody hope for the future - for themselves and everyone they will encounter in their lives."

For 80 years, Who's Who Among Students has annually honored outstanding student leaders from institutions of higher learning across the country. It is one of the most highly regarded and long-standing honors programs, respected by college faculties and administrations.
