Matthew Reed of Plainfield, Indiana, honored in Who's Who Among Students for 2017

Matthew Reed of Plainfield, Indiana (46168) has received national recognition as an outstanding campus leader for 201 by the Who's Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges? program. He is the son of Gordon and Michelle Reed.

Reed is one of a select group of 45 Olivet Nazarene University seniors who have been recognized for 2017. He is also part of a select group from more than 1,000 schools in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Majoring in political science and Spanish, Reed received this honor for his achievements while at Olivet, including: Recipient, Presidential Academic Scholarship; dean's list, all semesters; finalist, Reed Leadership Essay Contest; recipient, International Studies and Business Certificate from the University of Salamanca in Salamanca, Spain, while studying abroad; member and treasurer, Pi Sigma Alpha national political science honor society; member, Phi Alpha Theta national history honor society; member, Sigma Delta Pi national Spanish honor society; president (sophomore year) and treasurer (freshman year), Law and Politics Society; member, Capitol Hill Gang; volunteer, Hello!! English School while I studied abroad in Salamanca, Spain; volunteer, Kankakee County (Illinois) Teen Court (freshman year); interpretation and translation work for parent teacher conferences in local schools (senior year); small group leader for college age ministry, College Church of the Nazarene, Bourbonnais, Illinois; senior class president for Class of 2017; teacher's assistant, Department of History and Political Science (sophomore year); student ambassador, Office of Admissions; intern, Victims Assistance Department, Hendricks County (Indiana) Prosecutor's Office; administrative intern, Center for Law, Justice and Culture at Olivet; legal intern, Department of Local Government Finance, State of Indiana.

Olivet's campus nominating committee - made up of representatives from the faculty, administration and student body - selected and nominated students to be considered for this prestigious recognition. Selection criteria included grade point average, participation and leadership in school activities, community involvement, and leadership ability.

"These selected individuals exemplify the highest Christian ideals, strong academic achievement and a commitment to service," said Woody Webb, vice president for student development. "In and out of the classroom, they embody hope for the future - for themselves and everyone they will encounter in their lives."

For more than 80 years, Who's Who Among Students has annually honored outstanding student leaders from institutions of higher learning across the country. It is one of the most highly regarded and long-standing honors programs, respected by college faculties and administrations.
