Micah Forshee of Grand Blanc, Michigan, honored for service and accomplishments by Olivet Nazarene University

2018 May 15

Micah Forshee, a biology major and Honors Program student, received his Bachelor of Science degree and special recognition during Olivet Nazarene University Commencement on May 5, 2018. He is the recipient of the Robert M. Milner Honors Award as the outstanding male graduate in the Class of 2018. A resident of Grand Blanc, Michigan, he is the son of James and Brenda Forshee.

During summer 2017, Forshee completed an intensive, eight-week research experience at Robert Lurie Research Medical Center in Chicago. Also, he served with a group of physicians and physician assistants in the Appalachian Mountain region of Tennessee, caring for individuals living in poverty there.

As part of Olivet's Scholar Week 2018, Forshee presented his Honors Program research project, "The Effects of Inulin and Galactooligosaccharides on the Production of Reuterin by Lactobacillus Reuteri."

While at Olivet, Forshee competed in the Mr. ONU contest, served as a class representative on the Associated Student Council, was president of the Honors Student Council and on the Biophilic Council, and played intramural sports.

Forshee is entering a Ph.D. program in medical research at Baylor College of Medicine.

"Olivet's Honors Program has molded me intellectually, spiritually and personally - more than I know," Forshee said. "I'm a stronger Christian, a more astute scholar and a more well-rounded person. I wouldn't have done research or worked with Dr. Teresa Woodruff at Robert Lurie without the Honors Program. I owe my current career path to this challenging experience."
