Senior Kaleb Miller of Canton, Illinois, is Olivet's Lincoln Student Laureate

2016 Dec 5

Senior Kaleb Miller of Canton, Illinois, is Olivet Nazarene University's 2016 recipient of the Lincoln Academy's Abraham Lincoln Civic Engagement Award, presented for excellence in curricular and extracurricular activities.

Miller accepted the award last month in a ceremony at Illinois' Old State Capitol. This year marks the academy's 42nd annual recognition of Student Laureates, a group made up of one senior from each college or university in Illinois.

Miller serves as Olivet's student body president. A business major, he is active in Enactus, an international community of student, academic and business leaders committed to the power of entrepreneurial action. Miller is completing an internship at Riverside Healthcare in Kankakee, Illinois.

"I appreciate Kaleb's insight and common-sense approach to leadership," said Dr. Woody Webb, Olivet's vice president for student development. "This award only affirms what I know to be true about Kaleb. He is a man of integrity and a strong work ethic. He is highly respected by his peers, faculty and administration. His faith commitment is deep and leaves an impact on others. I have complete confidence that Kaleb will continue to make a Kingdom difference, no matter where his career takes him."

Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner, president of The Lincoln Academy, and First Lady Diana Rauner welcomed all the Student Laureates and awarded each with a certificate of merit, a Lincoln medal and a $1,000 check.

"President Lincoln's legacy is a reminder of the power of public service and civic engagement here in Illinois and across the country," Gov. Rauner said during the ceremony. "The students chosen to receive this honor have exemplified the principles and ideals of the greatest Illinoisan through their hard work and dedication to their schools and communities."
